The company, a joint venture with the Tamilnadu Industrial Development Corporation Ltd.(TIDCO), is the first of its kind to undertake integrated salt works i.e. production of Salt (plus other by-products), and shrimp culture. Both these processes happen simultaneously. Only China and Vietnam have similar facilities.

The salt unit serves as a good backward integration conduit and uninterrupted supply of salt for the chIor-alkali plant of the conglomerate.

Bitterns, a by product is routed for value added production of Liquid Bromine, which has demand from Pharmaceutical and specialty chemical industries. Research is on to recover more useful by-products from bitterns.

The  conglomerate has recently taken over Priyadarshini Salt Works Pvt. ltd and SK Salts Pvt. ltd, which in turn produce huge qualities of salt for sale purpose.

Aquaculture is another area of operations where Sree Maruthi Marine Industries Ltd. has recorded a consistently exceptional growth rate. The shrimp harvesting/turnover is very shortly expected to touch the 300 TPA mark, what with exports to Japan and USA giving the activity a fillip.
